Christie Lynn Debuts Country, Gospel and Bluegrass Album
Gusto Album Guests Porter Wagoner, Dolly Parton, Ralph Stanley

NASHVILLE—Christie Lynn, Porter Wagoner’s duet partner from 1995 to 2002, will debut her acoustic-powered album Christie Lynn Sings Country, Gospel & Bluegrass on Gusto Records September 26. Guest artists are Dolly Parton, Ralph Stanley and Wagoner, who also produced the album. The country and gospel songs are set to bluegrass arrangements.

Gifted with a strong and fluid voice, Lynn became a favorite with Grand Ole Opry and TNN audiences during her years with the rhinestone-clad Country Music Hall of Famer. On this new album, her hard-driving leads and intensifying harmonies match the instrumental dazzle of such stellar bluegrass pickers as Bryan Sutton, James Alan Shelton, Ronnie McCoury, Rob Ickes and Mark Fain.

“I enjoyed working with Christie on the new project,” says Wagoner. “She did a masterful job with the kinds of music she listened to growing up in Alabama. I first met Christie at Opryland USA after she stepped out of the crowd to sing a couple of songs with Bashful Brother Oswald and Charlie Collins. I’m proud of how well this album showcases her talent.”

Parton teams with Lynn and Wagoner on “Beneath The Sweet Magnolia Tree,” a song Parton wrote and which she and Wagoner recorded on their 1980 Porter & Dolly package. Ralph Stanley takes the lead with Lynn and Wagoner on the majestic traditional hymn, “Model Church.”

Wagoner wrote two of the album’s 12 cuts—“Bluegrass Boogie” and “Lonely Sounds Of Night.” His sister, Loraine Wagoner Hall, contributed the comforting hymn, “Closest Neighbor.” Carl Jackson (with his various co-writers) has four songs on the album: “Lonesome Dove” (which Trisha Yearwood recorded in her 1991 debut album), “Down Home,” “I’ve Cried My Last Tear Over You” and “High Lonesome Stranger.”

Lynn, her mother and her brother wrote the heart-rending “We’re Gonna Miss You,” a tribute to the singer’s paternal grandfather. David Leslie Bridges pitched in the whimsical “Moonshine Quiver.” Lynn rounds out the album with the high-octane gospel medley, “Where The Soul Never Dies,” “Hallelujah, I’m Ready To Go” and “Over In The Gloryland.”

“I’m excited to present this new release,” says Moe Lytle, president of Gusto-King Records. “It will be a great addition to our rich catalog of bluegrass music at Gusto, King and Starday Records.”

In addition to her work with Wagoner, Lynn also performed occasionally with bands comprised of former members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet and Blackfoot. Her first album, Dixie Girl on her own label, was released in 2001 and adorned with guest performances by George Jones and Patty Loveless.
